About Me:

Hi there. I have been learning that there is no self. The self that is writing this is an illusion. I am you. I am also the mosquitoes and argentine ants that I kill mercilessly. I am the mold that breaks down my co-op’s rotten food. Simply naming some entities and saying that I am them seems silly. But I am beginning to see how this is true. I am beginning, so I haven’t become convinced of it. And because I am an undergraduate student, my process of enlightenment has been pruned and suppressed.

I took the philosophy of time and space last quarter at the college I attend, UC Davis. I learned that time is an illusion. There are many ways to prove that it is an illusion but there are more ways to hold on and to delude oneself that it exists and that it is real. Change does not occur. Time, as defined as past, present, and future, is dependent on change. I hope my argumentation for this will improve. At this point, you’ll have to take my word for it, or look up McTaggart’s argument for the unreality of time. I also learned that space is an illusion. Well, actually, this is my decision. Time cannot exist separately from space. The kind of time that philosophers think exists is time explained in a spacelike manner. In eternalism, all events exist and are real though they are not equally located and it seems that if we were to travel in a sufficiently large enough arc (according to Godel) we could access the past. The future they are not certain about, because it hasn’t begun to exist according to the growing block theory. This is where multiple dimensions of time and of universes is introduced.

This is complicated. Too complicated. I refer to A Course in Miracles. It says, “time and space are one illusion.” Simple! We exist in eternity and only dream in time. Our perceptions do not result in knowledge. The external world does not exist. There is only an internal world. Have you tried peering inside of yourself? It shouldn’t be difficult! I’ll keep practicing.

I have moments of insight, where in my normal binocular vision, for the briefest instant, I see a very bright, bright, light. Sometimes it seems that this speck will expand and that I will somehow find myself, as I imagine, in a very, very, bright place. Although I am not sure if there could be a self there. I have been afraid that this is just me going diabetic and me losing my vision. This fear is just to rationalize it. However, these moments of insight are correlated when I am thinking critically about philosophy or have actually a moment of insightful thought. This phenomenon makes me tear at the thought of its potential. I haven’t yet found someone to help me explain what it is. Can you reader help me?
